Augusta ~ Marguerite Blake, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 following a brief stay at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation at Gray Birch in Augusta, and is now at peace. Prior to her stay there, she resided at her home on High Street in Augusta. She was born in Gardiner on August 11, 1923, the daughter of Marguerite and George Larrabee. Marguerite attended Catholic School and graduated from Cony High School in 1940. She also attended Gates Business College. She was employed by local mills and worked 35 years with Maine State Government. Of her many hobbies, she loved to do crossword puzzles and travel with her husband Dan to Myrtle Beach, SC. They spent many years as family at their camp on Maranacook Lake. She also loved camping with Dan at various camp grounds throughout Maine. Marguerite had a positive outlook on life, she loved to laugh, express her love and live a good life. Marguerite loved her family and had many dear friends and neighbors. During the last few years of her life they were always there to lend a helping hand. Many thanks to her neighbors, Jane and Gil, Mike and Linda, Keiko and close friend Mary Dube. Marguerite was very independent with lots of pride and dignity. Her stubbornness didn't impede them from helping her. They dismissed her traits whether she liked it or not and we would like to express our gratitude for all their help. Marguerite loved her cat and wanted him to remain in the neighborhood. Black cat now has a new home with Mary and is doing well. Marguerite was predeceased by her first husband James Jones and her beloved second husband Daniel Blake. She is sadly missed by her loving family, James Jones and wife Lucy of Augusta; Michael Blake of Readfield, and Jacqueline Magenta of Randolph; her grandchildren Lisa and husband Edward Gleason of Sidney, Tammy and husband Kenneth Sidelinger of Augusta and Jacob Gilbert of Portland; two great grandsons Evan Gleason of Virginia and Kyle Gleason of Sidney. A graveside service will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery in the spring followed by a celebration of her life.
