READFIELD - 'Rita' Marguerite M. McKenney, 79, died Friday, May 21, 2004, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief stay at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Manchester on July 28, 1924, the daughter of William and Ella (Booth) Morgan. Rita was a lifelong resident of the Readfield-Manchester area, where she was known as 'Gram' by many. She loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She was predeceased by her husband, William McKenney, in 1995. Rita is survived by two daughters, Winniefred Bechard and her husband, Paul, of Chelsea, and Joan Ashby of Readfield; four brothers, Fred Morgan and his wife, Vangie, of Readfield, John Morgan and his wife, Cathy, of Readfield, Robert Morgan of Augusta, and Charles Morgan and his wife, Ruby, of Standish; one sister, Hazel Dupont and her husband, John, of Farmingdale; six grandchildren, Sandra Donovan, John Bechard, Tina Brann, Sherry Zarella, Roberta Hawkes and her husband, Peter, and Leroy 'Bubba' Ashby; 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Rita will be buried at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery next to her husband, William, at the convenience of the family.
