AUGUSTA - Marie Louise (Paddock) Brown of Fayette died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after a long, courageous bout with cancer. She was born in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 1929, the only child of Dr. Frank and Louise (Jensen) Paddock. An artist by profession, she was a graduate of Olney High School and Moore Institute of Art, Industry, and Design for Women, both located in Philadelphia. For four years, she studied commercial illustration. During that time, she took special work under George Selar and Reginald Marsh. For many years, her interest has was turned to fine arts, devoting her time to painting landscapes of Maine and floral studies of local flowers. In August 1956, she had an exhibit at the Plantation House Handicrafts in Readfield, consisting of watercolor sketches of Readfield, oil studies, still life, flowers and tempera drawings. On Nov. 2, 1951, in Philadelphia, she married Dee Carlton Brown Jr. of Philadelphia. Moving in 1976 to Maine, where she and her husband had a summer home on Echo Lake, Fayette, she lived in Readfield for many years before moving to Fayette, where she and her husband winterized their home. She was a member of the Winthrop Business Professional Women, having served a term as president; and the Pine Tree Quilters. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Deborah Louise Warren and her husband, Lester D. Warren, of Hermon; and two grandchildren, David L. Warren of Bangor and Jessica B. Warren of Hermon. A celebration of Marie's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Burial will be held at a later date in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville, Pa.
