Obituary

Marvin E. Richards, a beloved father, dedicated serviceman, and talented craftsman, passed away on June 17, 2026. Marvin was born on September 21, 1929, in North Wayne, Maine, to the loving parents Alton and Hazel Richards. Marvin's journey through life took him from the classrooms of Mount Vernon and Monmouth Academy to the fields of Germany, where he proudly served our nation for four years as a Staff Sargent in the Army.

Upon returning to his native soil, Marvin embarked on a multifaceted career path, working as a CNA at the State hospital, Lab Globe in Albany, Kennebec Journal, Lab Bonified Mill, and finally retiring after 35 dedicated years at Saunders Manufacturing. Marvin's industrious nature didn't stop with his professional life. He was also a skilled handyman who found joy in restoring homes to their former glory and then passing them on to new families.

Marvin was a man of many interests, known for his love of square dancing as a member of the "Squire Town Square Dancers" and his active involvement in the community. He was a faithful member of the American Legion Post#40, the North Monmouth Church, and the FFA in Monmouth. Marvin's love story spanned across his lifetime, marrying Patricia McCollett with whom he had a daughter, Pamela McCollett. Later in life, he found companionship with Eva May Millett Gray, and subsequently with Janet Pray, whom he married on August 25, 2007. Marvin's family extended to his cherished stepchildren, Larry and Sharon, Robert and Jean, Luanne and Brian, and Lisa and Don.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Hazel Richards, his siblings, Flora Carter and Alton Jr., and Barbara Hall. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela McCollett, and a host of nieces, nephews, and stepchildren.

Marvin's life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and love, and he will be deeply missed. We encourage you to leave memories and upload photos of Marvin to the memorial page, so we can all remember the unique person he was.
