Obituary

FAYETTE--Mary Elizabeth Bushie, ‘Grammy’, 84, of Fayette, went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on September 29, 2015, after a brief stay at the Heritage Rehabilitation Center in Winthrop. She was born October 4, 1930 in Bethel, Connecticut, the daughter of Ralph William and Mary Elizabeth Hawley. She attended schools in Connecticut and later settled in Maine, where she met her husband Leon C. Berry, with whom she raised four children and operated a dairy farm. After Leon's passing, she earned her GED through Maranacook Area Schools in 1982, and worked at Carleton Woolen Mills in Winthrop, retiring in 1998. Mary was an enthusiastic woman. She loved being outdoors, gardening, fishing, and hunting. Mary and Joel spent many days collecting tips for making wreaths and harvesting sap to make maple syrup. Mary enjoyed lawn sales, going to Goodwill, and shopping at thrift stores. She loved reading as many books as she could get her hands on and playing card games with her family and friends. She was a devout Christian and longtime member of the Fayette Baptist Church. Of all the things she loved, being a grandmother was her most prized role. She was predeceased by sisters Alice Bolinger and Margaret Gorham, brothers Lesley W. Hawley and Gene Hartlett, and her husbands: Leon C. Berry and Joel H. Bushie. She is survived by her children; Benjamin Berry and his wife Michelle of Wayne, Elizabeth Berry-Small and her husband Mike of Minot, Joseph Berry of Lewiston, and Marcia Berry and her husband Neil, of Trevose, PA. Her beloved grandchildren include Julia Kloetzer of Auburn, Mary Rowley and her husband Nicholas of Fayette, Alice Berry of Fayette, Isaac Berry of Wayne, Michelle Billings, her husband Greg and their children of Auburn, Curtis Small, his fianc Cassandra and their children of Lewiston, Brandon Berry and his fianc Misha Taylor of Lisbon, and Aaron and Alex Kale of Trevose, PA. Mary is also survived by her sister, Joan Kilbourne, of Lunenburg, MA, and her very dear friend Sharon Tapley, of Livermore Falls. Mary will be buried at Kent Cemetery in Fayette with her ‘Honey Bear’, Joel Bushie. They will be “Together, Forever with Jesus.” A funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Sunday, October 4, her 85th birthday, at the Fayette Baptist Church. Visiting hours will be from 6-8 the evening of Friday, October 2nd at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street in Winthrop. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Mary Bushie to the Fayette Baptist Church Building Fund, 39 Baldwin Hill Rd, Fayette ME 04349.
