Obituary

WINTHROP - Mary Elizabeth Demers, 84, of Winthrop, died Wednesday October 25, 2006 at her daughter?s home in Winthrop. She was born in East Millinocket September 4, 1922 the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Nicholson) MacEachern. She lived in East Millinocket until she went away to college. She received a teaching certificate from Gorham State Teachers College and later earned her B.S. in Elementary Education. She taught school in both Maine and Massachusetts. She married Thomas W. Demers, June 11, 1945. He predeceased her in 1980. Mary was an avid reader and loved to share this joy with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also shared her love of cooking with her family. Her favorite memories were of family gatherings in Boothbay Harbor. Mrs. Demers is survived by her children, Thomas W. Demers and his wife, Maureen, of Arrowsic, Maine, Robert A. Demers and his wife, Carol, of Methuen, MA, Ann Hurd and her husband, Steve, of Winthrop, Larry Demers and his wife, Anne Basanese, of Billerica, MA and Patrick Demers and his wife, Debbie Gilpin, of Scottsdale, AZ; her grandchildren, Shawn Demers, of Arrowsic, Amy Gershman and her husband, Andrew, of East Bridgewater, MA, Carey Demers, of Bath, Rebecca Hurd, of Winthrop, Colleen Demers, of Georgetown, ME, Rob Demers, of Methuen, MA, Liz Butterworth and her husband, Jordan, of East Baldwin, ME, Thomas Demers of Waltham, MA, Teri Demers of Methuen, MA, and Olivia and Andre Demers, of Scottsdale, AZ. Great-grandchildren, Sarah, Emily and Grace Demers, of Bowling Green, VA, Josef and Hailee Butterworth, of East Baldwin; sisters in law, Mary Anne True and her husband, Richard, of Branford, CT and Barbara MacEachern, of Lincoln, ME; best friends, Anna Bradford, the Hacketts, and the Jewells; and many special nieces and nephews. All services will be private. Memorial donations may be made in Mary?s name to the Maine Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 8730 Portland, Maine 04104 or the Pine Tree Camp, P.O. Box 518 Bath, Maine 04530. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop.
