BELGRADE LAKES - Maurice E. 'Moe' Webster, 70, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Togus. He was born on Aug. 13, 1934, in Augusta, the son of Harold Charles Webster and Flossie M. (Taylor) Webster. He graduated from Belgrade High School and then served with the Navy during the Korean War. Moe worked as a carpenter for many years and also worked in the family business at Great Pond Marina, Belgrade. He later worked for the state in several capacities. In 1966, he suffered an industrial accident that left him paralyzed. He was owner and operator of Beck-M's Trading Post in Belgrade Lakes. Moe was active in many organizations. He was Democratic town chairman for 20 years; served as Belgrade selectman and Scoutmaster for Troop 453 Belgrade; was a member of the Belgrade Volunteer Fire Department, founding member of the Downeast Country Music Association of Maine, member of the Union Church of Belgrade Lakes, United Methodist, the Vernon Valley Masonic Lodge of Mount Vernon and Disabled American Veterans; and past commander of the Adams-Cobb-Stevens American Legion Post, Belgrade. He also enjoyed camping, was a member of the Good Sam Camping Association, and was an avid NASCAR and Red Sox fan. Moe was predeceased by two brothers, David and John Webster. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca 'Becky' Webster of Belgrade Lakes; two sons, Harold 'Jim' Webster and his wife, Kelly, of Belgrade and Charles Webster and his wife, Vicki, of Farmington; a daughter, Kim Haggan and husband Frank of Belgrade; five grandchildren, Ashley, Alyson and Amanda Webster and Erin and Ryan Haggan; a daughter from a previous marriage, Deborah Brezler and her husband, David, of Richmond and their children Dana, Andre, Jason and Theresa; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting at this time. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Union Church of Belgrade Lakes, United Methodist, with the Rev. Bill Meyer officiating. Spring burial will be in Glenside Cemetery, Winthrop. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Church, P.O. Box 133, Belgrade Lakes 04918. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.
