Obituary Merrill Louis Gogan
Merrill Louis Gogan, the only child of Leora Irene (Strom) Gogan and George Gogan, born August 1, 1931, in St. Johnsbury, VT, passed away peacefully in his home in Readfield, ME at approximately 8:30 PM on February 12, 2022, surrounded by family.
Merrill is predeceased by his first wife of 16 years, Thelma Louise (Kierstead) Morrison of Sandy, Utah, who passed away on December 20, 2021.
Merrill is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Carol Ann (York) Gogan, four children from his first marriage: Loresa Lee Myers, Shelene Louise Orton, Marin Linnell Gogan and Troy Linwood Gogan all of Sandy and Heber City, Utah, and four children from his current marriage: Sherilyn May Quimby of Belfield, North Dakota, Terance Alder Gogan currently stationed (Army) in Hohenfels, Germany, Skyler Benjamin Gogan of Readfield, Maine and Kabary Isaac Gogan of Winthrop, Maine. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Merrill's family moved to Maine while he was very young, and he grew up and went to school in South Portland. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954.
He was a talented artist and drummer from his youth and worked many years as a graphic designer both in Florida and Maine. He taught commercial art for two years at the Portland School of Fine & Applied Arts.
He has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for over 70 years where he served in many capacities. He worked for the Church in Salt Lake City, Utah as the first designer for the "Ensign" magazine for adults when it was first published in 1971.

A "Celebration of Life" will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1182 Main Street, Monmouth on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. Light refreshments will be available.
Merrill's graveside service with military honors will be on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Blue Star Ave, Civic Center Drive, Augusta
