Obituary

FARMINGDALE- Michael G. Madden, 84, passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland on September 18, 2025, with his loving wife, Judy (Ranslow) Madden, at his side. He was born in Augusta to the late Clarence and Ruth (Patterson) Madden. Michael graduated from Hallowell High School in 1959, following high school, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1961-1964. He then went to college and received his bachelor's in business administration from University of Maine at Orono. Michael began his working career at IBM in Gaithersburg Maryland, before moving back to Maine. He worked his way up to management at E. J. Prescott Inc., where he happily retired on August 31st, 2006. He deeply enjoyed spending time with his family or being outdoors working in his gardens, golfing or bird watching. Michael also loved watching the Red Sox. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 6 in Hallowell, where he served at the past Commander and Historian. He is survived by his wife, Judy of 58 years, his son, Jonathan Madden and spouse Ana Noriega of Farmingdale, and grandson, Leon Madden. As well as many nieces, nephews and close friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers Duane Cowing and Barry Cowing as well as his son Kevin Madden. Michael's visitation will be held on Friday, September 26th from 6-8PM at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta. A mass of Christian burial will take place the following day, Saturday September 27th, at 10AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 12 Summer Street, Hallowell. Immediately following mass, Michael will be placed in his final resting place, Maine Avenue Cemetery, Farmingdale, where he will receive full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pals No-Kill Cat Shelter, 188 Case Road, Winthrop, Maine 04364. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of the Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta, Maine.
