AUGUSTA ? Mildred B. Foster Lenfest, 83, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at her home in Augusta. She was born in Washington, Maine, on Jan. 20, 1920, the daughter of Granville Reuben and Clara (McElhiney) Turner. Mildred graduated from Washington High School in 1938 and was employed by Kayser-Roth Shoe for many years, where she served as a Union Steward. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 9437 in Washington. An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Mildred also enjoyed playing Beano. Mildred was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Foster, in 1975, and her second husband, Archie Lenfest, in 1995; two brothers, Wilford and Granville Russell Turner; two infant daughters, Norma Elaine and Barbara Ann Smith; and one son, William Rodney Smith. She is survived by one daughter, Melody Foster, of Augusta; one brother, Alfred Turner, of Belfast; two sisters-in-law, Nettie Turner of Washington, Maine, and Irene Turner of Pittson; three grandsons, William Smith of Madison, Ronald Smith of Wayne and Donald Smith of Bingham; four great-grandchildren, Alicia, Matthew, Andrea and Billy; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. At Mrs. Lenfest's request, there will be no visiting hours. A celebration of her life will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 14, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. Following the service, committal prayers will be offered at 1 p.m., at the graveside at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
