BELGRADE - Muriel A. Cottle, 77, of Belgrade, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, in Waterville, after a courageous battle with kidney failure. She was born in Washington, June 4, 1933, the daughter of Elroy and Jessie Bragg. She attended school in Vassalboro, grew up in the greater Augusta area and attended nursing school. She married Russell Cottle June 27, 1953, in Manchester. Muriel worked at several area health care facilities, but was at Augusta Mental Health Institute the longest. She also worked for several years at Lamey Wellehan. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, time at the coast, and loved to travel anywhere in the car. Muriel inspired many with the bravery she showed in battling her illness. Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Russell; and several of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Rusty Cottle and his wife, Carla Heisten, of Chelsea, and Timothy Cottle and his companion, Shirley Wright, of Belgrade; her daughter, Susan Zombro, and her husband, Darren, of Florida; her brother, Leroy Bragg, of Gardiner; her sisters, Doris Bragg, of Windsor, Gloria Vining, of Farmington, Sandra Welch, of Anson, and Louise Harwood, of Skowhegan; her grandchildren, Tim Cottle, Jasmine Nardone and Erick Truong; great-grandchildren Jacob and Isabella Cottle, Autumn, Jacob and Chrysta Daley, and Kamden Truong; along with several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Manchester Forks Cemetery on Monday at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be sent in Muriel's name to The Humane Society of the Waterville Area, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901-4203.
