Obituary

Nancy Ann Strickland, born September 11th, 1934, went to be with the Lord on October 15, 2023, in her home after a short illness. She is survived by her two sons, Robert L. Whittemore and his wife Cathy of Vassalboro, ME, and Jeffery A. Whittemore and his wife Julie of Springfield, MA.; one daughter Pamela Grant and her husband Kevin of Addison, ME, and her brother Leon Huard of Unity. Nancy is also survived by six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband's Robert Whittemore, Jessie Tarr, and Lyle Strickland, her sisters Noreen Huff, Jean Emery, and Patricia Sirois and her parents. Nancy enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with her family at the hunting camp in Sangerville or on camping trips. She enjoyed making beautiful wreaths for all the family members each November while at camp and found joy in the giving of them. When her children were young, she would make each one of them their own fancy decorated gingerbread house at Christmas and laughed at all of us snagging icicles off the eves on our way by even though she would scold us for it. Christmas was a special time of year for her and spending time at family get-togethers was always a special time for her. Her other interests included trips with family, sitting by the woodstove, supervising her children's projects, painting, attending yard sales, and working with the elderly. She loved all the animals she ever met whether it be horse, dog, cat, or goat. Her giving, fun-loving nature provided her and those around her with endless memories to cherish forever. In honoring with Nancy's request, there will be a short graveside service for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the hospice organization of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta where condolences and memories may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home website by visiting www.khrfuneralhomes.com
