WINTHROP ? Norma Elliott Hamlin Henderson, 87, went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 28, 2003, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Wellington on May 23, 1915, the daughter of Myrtle and Alton Hamlin. Norma graduated from Cony High School in 1935. She had been employed at the Augusta House in the 1960s and then by the state of Maine until her retirement from the Forestry Department. She served in many organizations throughout the years, some of which included being a Girl Scout leader, cooking at the Hot Meals Program and her involvement in Ugly Quilts. She was also an active member of both Winthrop Congregational Church, where she served in many capacities, and Winthrop Grange No. 209; also Winthrop Senior Citizens, where she was a past president and current treasurer. In the year 2000, she was awarded the Spirit of America Award for her outstanding community service. Norma was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Edward Henderson; her brothers, Preston and Arnold Drake; her sisters, Evelyn Shaw and Marie McCann; and sister-in-law Jennie Henderson. She is survived by her brother, Vernon Drake, of Wellington; her sister, Daisy Drake, of Bangor; her daughters, Lois H. Gibbs of Winthrop and Nancy L. Albert of Manchester; her sons, Larry E. Henderson of Owego, N.Y., and Cyril Lawrence Daniels of Rochester, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Ernest Henderson of East Winthrop; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, all of Connecticut, New York, North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives are invited to visit 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kim Murphy, from Winthrop Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop.
