AUGUSTA ? Paul Dyer Simpson, 74, of Fuller Road, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at his home. He was born in Augusta, July 7, 1927, the son of Walworth and Bernice 'Bunny' (Leighton) Simpson. He attended local schools and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in engineering. Paul served in the Coast Guard and then married Margaret (Peggy) Given. He worked in the family business, Wyman & Simpson Construction Co., and also worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation for the state of Maine. Upon his retirement, he moved to Sullivan Harbor, where he lived until returning to Augusta several years later. He still enjoyed his engineering knowledge and also enjoyed cooking, gardening, plants and puttering. He was a member of the Ellsworth Elks Club and a former member of the Augusta American Legion. He was predeceased by his first wife, Peggy Simpson (1996), his second wife Elaine Simpson (1992), and a son John Simpson (1972). He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Simpson of Gorham; two daughters, Jennifer Simpson and her partner, William Gorneau, of Chelsea, and Judith Macomber and her husband, Joe, of Winthrop; a brother, Robert Simpson of Gardiner; his grandchildren, Hannah and Kate Simpson, Joey and Jennifer Macomber, and Rachel Gorneau; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Forest Grove Cemetery in Augusta.
