WINTHROP - Pauline 'Polly' Ayer, 76, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, with her family by her side. She was born in Fulton, N.Y., on Sept. 14, 1930, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Guglielma) Ferri. Polly's family moved to Gray, where she was educated, graduating from Pennell Institute in the class of 1948. She married Richard L. Ayer at the Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth on June 19, 1954. They lived in Fort Kent briefly before moving to Winthrop, where she worked for 33 years as a secretary in the Winthrop High School guidance department. Polly is survived by her husband, Richard, of Winthrop; her son and daughter, Michael Ayer and his wife, Judith, of Waterville, and Susan (Ayer) Lamontagne and her daughter, Jenna, of Winthrop; her brother, Joseph Ferri and his wife, Linda, of Gray; her twin sisters, Elizabeth McKeown of Biddeford and Annette Egbert of Portland; as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. The family has elected to have a private funeral service.
