Obituary

AUGUSTA - Percy H. Grant, 81, of Augusta passed away peacefully at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch on Aug. 12, 2008. He was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Skowhegan, the son of Hervey J. Grant and Goldie A. Oxley (Shaw) Grant. He was married for 54 years to Leona (Hall) Grant. Percy lived and grew up in Hallowell and attended Hallowell High School. He then served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Diesel Engineering School in the late 1940s, after which he took a job with Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut. Later, he returned to Augusta and became manager of the Sunoco Service Station on Bangor Street in Augusta. He was an enthusiastic sportsman; he loved hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was a finish carpenter and enjoyed painting and drawing. Percy was also a former member of the Lions Club and formerly attended Old South Congregational Church in Hallowell. Mr. Grant was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Fred M. Grant and Milford W. Shaw. He is survived by his wife, Leona, of Augusta; his daughter, Gaye G. Mullen, and his grandchildren, Keltie, Meghan and Kevin Mullen, all of Winthrop; along with several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A graveside service, with military honors, will be t 11 a.m. on Monday at Forest Grove Cemetery in Augusta.
