Obituary

OBITUARY SPRINGVALE- Mr. Peter J. Carroll, Jr., passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness. He is the husband of Karen E. (Plummer) Carroll with whom he shared 25 years of marriage. Pete was born December 23, 1956, in Stoneham, Massachusetts. He is the son of the late Peter J. Carroll, Sr. and Patricia J. (Blanchard) Gunther, and brother of the late Robert Carroll, Sr. Pete grew up in Melrose, MA, and lived in Mesa, AZ, and then Gloucester, MA, for many years until moving to Maine. Pete was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Germany, and held the rank of SP-4. He was a Calvary scout for the 1st Calvary and a tank commander. He was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Marksman Badge Rifle M-16 and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Pete had a ready smile, would do anything for anyone, and made friends easily. He loved music and attended over 100 live concerts. His favorite band was Pink Floyd. He loved the outdoors and was an avid camper, hiker, and boater, having nearly sunk a pontoon boat in a hilarious incident with Karen and friends on Lake Sebago in Maine. Pete loved vacationing with his in-laws and took many trips, including to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Grand Canyon. An avid sports fan, Pete rooted for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Pete was a doting grandfather to Ashley and Logan Muise. The girls fondly remember how Pete greeted them every day at the school bus and brought them home for snacks and kids' movies. He taught Ashley how to catch and throw a ball, and Logan how to play cribbage. As proof of his love and dedication to Ashley and Logan, he used to endure hours and hours of Hannah Montana and Jessie on TV even though he couldn't stand the shows. In addition to his loving wife Karen, Pete is survived by his stepchildren Nikki Muise (Katie) and their daughters, Ashley and Logan of Sanford, ME; Chris Muise (Amanda) and their children, Madison and CJ of Middleburg, FL; and a niece, a nephew and many cousins. He also leaves his in-laws Jan Rybarski (Michael, deceased) of Houston, TX; Lyn Plummer of Truro, MA; Bill Plummer (Michele) of Melrose, NY. He was predeceased by his stepson Steven Muise. Pete and Karen shared decades of fun, love and laughter with their close friends, David and Diana Tonneson. In addition, Pete had countless friendships that he maintained since childhood. In honoring Pete's wishes, services will be private, and his wife Karen will hold a Celebration of Pete's Life at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, where condolences and memories may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home website by visiting www.khrfuneralhomes.com
