Peter Anthony St. Hilaire April 13, 1959 – April 27, 2025 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peter "Pete" St. Hilaire on April 27th in Winthrop, at the age of 66. Born on April 13, 1959, Pete was the youngest of seven children to Armand and Eleanor St. Hilaire. A lifelong resident of Winthrop, he graduated from Winthrop High School in 1977. From his early days working at Carleton Woolen Mills to his later years as a self-employed tradesman, Pete found joy in hard work, family, and a good-spirited rivalry. A devoted New York Yankees fan, he embraced every opportunity to tease his Red Sox-loving family, making baseball season an ongoing source of laughter and friendly banter. Sundays at Green Street were filled with family, food, and games—Boomer Ball, barn chamber basketball, and whatever other competition could be conjured up. As the extended family grew and traditions evolved, Pete remained eager to join barbecues and gatherings with loved ones. He was a fierce competitor in all things: pick-up basketball, horseshoes, cribbage, and even canoe jousting. He never missed an opportunity for playful trash talk, continuing his commentary long after the game was over. As the leader of the Nightcaps, he helped form a close-knit team that competed in the old Winthrop Modified Softball League, fostering friendships and camaraderie for years. Pete's passion extended beyond sports. He was a proud supporter of Winthrop football and basketball and became known for his creative poetry, crafting verses that celebrated his niece's cheerleading squad, Winthrop athletics, and even the history of his hometown. His words brought smiles to those who read them, capturing the heart of his community. Pete was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Jackie Wing and Suzanne Ward; his brother, Stephen "Tete" St. Hilaire; his ex-wife and dear friend, Julie Meserve; and his beloved nephews, Craig Ward and Lee St. Hilaire. He is survived by his brothers, David (Sandy), Jon (Betty), and Kevin (Dot) St. Hilaire; his daughters, Nicole Pelkey (Brandon) and Heather Meserve; his grandchildren, Jada Peterman, Brynn Buck, Bailey, Daniel, and Evan Pelkey, Michael Meserve, and Juliana Mitchell; and his great-grandchildren, Cait and Timothy Pelkey. Pete leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, as well as dear friends, including fellow Nightcaps Brooksie, Bo Scott, Smelly, Bingo, Bogie, and many others from the Winthrop community. In keeping with Pete's wishes, there will be no visiting hours or formal services. Those who wish to honor his legacy are invited to make a donation in his name to the Lee St. Hilaire Scholarship Fund at the Winthrop Credit Union. A celebration of Pete's life will be held at the Winthrop American Legion on Saturday, May 31st, from noon to 4 p.m. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, Maine.
