Obituary

Philip A. Huff, Jr. AUGUSTA--- Phil Huff, 82, of Augusta, died Wednesday August 16, 2017 at Togus Springs. Phil was born in Augusta, October 3, 1934 the son of Phil, Sr. and Lena (Gidney) Huff. He attended school in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in 1952. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Watson, June 24, 1954. They had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary, this year. In December of 1954, Phil volunteered to enter the U.S. Army, serving two years of active duty and another four on reserve. He went to work for John Watson Inc. on the G.I. Bill, learning to be a plumber and to work on oil burners. He bought the business in 1974 and ran it until his retirement in 1984. Phil enjoyed hunting and fishing, snowmobiling, and working with his tractor and excavator. He had a pet goat and donkey and a Siamese cat that lived to the age of 20. He enjoyed his camp at Moosehead Lake in the summer and, for 25 years, spent winters in Florida. In 1987, he had a log home built, half a mile from the Church Hill Road and stayed there in Augusta, when he wasn’t at Moosehead. Phil’s family wishes to thank Dr. Jim Schneid and his nurse, Deb O’Neil and all the doctors and staff in the hospice care unit at Togus Springs. They are all angels on earth, giving the best care in the world and were a comfort to his family. Mr. Huff was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Achorn. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughters, Deborah Newcombe, of Hallowell and Dawn Coons and her husband, David, of Windsor; his grandchildren, Jennifer Magee, January Magee-Carroll and her husband, Timothy, and Mark Pelletier; a great-grandson, Timothy Carroll along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
