WINTHROP ? Philip D. Jackson, 74, of Narrows Pond Road, died peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation at Glenridge, Augusta. He was born in Winthrop, Nov. 16, 1927, the son of Millard K. and Mary (Dudley) Jackson. Phil was educated in Winthrop schools and on Nov. 4, 1950 he married Barbara Weymouth, of Dresden. He was a colorist and designer of vinyl coated fabrics at Inmont Corporation in Winthrop for many years. He overcame many challenges in his life, including a disability he had as a result of a childhood accident, and lived a very full life. His strong constitution allowed him to live long after his initial cancer diagnosis in 1995. Phil enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing, and was well- known for his beautiful and bountiful vegetable gardens, especially his prize tomatoes, which he grew by the bushels. He spent countless hours in his garden, which was originally his father's, visiting with and entertaining many a passerby. His favorite times were spent in the company of his family. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, Barbara, and his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Jackson of Winthrop; his children, Deborah King, her husband, Jerry, and their son, Cole, all of Winthrop, Rebecca Gillespie, her husband, Bill, and their children, Lane, Gavin and Libby, of Winthrop, Timothy Jackson, his wife, Deborah, and their children, Tori Lee, Hannah, Heidi and Tyler, of Monmouth, Cathie Jackson, her companion, Larry Poulin, and her children, Neal, Benjamin and Brandon, of Winthrop, and Betty Sue Jackson, and her children, Jamie and Cody, of Monmouth; four sisters, Lucille Johnson of Winthrop, Pauline Cobb and Ann Preble of Florida, and Clara Cowan of Seattle, Wash.; and a brother, Paul Jackson, and his wife, Earlene, of Cape Elizabeth; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
