MANCHESTER - Phillip E. Tribou, 83, of Hammonds Grove died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at his home. He was born in Augusta on Feb. 9, 1922, the son of Erwin D. and Clara (Littlefield) Tribou. He attended Nash, Lincoln and Smith schools and graduated from Cony High School, Augusta, class of 1940. He went to work in President Roosevelt's Youth Corps until he found a permanent job with the state forestry lab. While there, he met and married Marjorie May of Northampton, England. In 1946, after a tour of duty in London, he was returned to the states and the life of a civilian. He was employed by the State of Maine as an inspector for the Department of Health. His wife joined him in Augusta on Easter Sunday, 1946, and the couple went to live in South Portland, briefly. He was sent to serve in Japan during the Korean conflict. It was 1951 before he was able to take a job with the state as a dairy inspector. They were living in Hallowell, where daughter Barbara was born in 1952. Then they bought a home in Augusta and stayed in Phil's hometown until retirement. His son, John, was born in 1954 and Phil went to work for Depositors Trust Co. After retirement from Key, they moved to a new home in Manchester on the site of their camp on Lake Cobbossee. Phil was a lifelong member of Green Street United Methodist Church, holding many offices, including chairman of the board of trustees, president of the Mens Club and treasurer of the Maine United Methodist Coalition responsible for building the Methodist Conference Home in Rockland. He became a 32nd degree Mason in Old Town in 1947. Since 1982, he had been a member of the Abnaki Club. For the past 15 years, he was treasurer of the reunion committee of the Cony Class of 1940. He was predeceased by his brother, Hugh Tribou; and a sister, Virginia Tribou. He is survived by his loving and beloved wife of 60 years, Marjorie Tribou of Manchester; a son, John and his wife, Ruth, and their children Kim, Greg and Tim; daughter Barbara and her husband, David, and their children, Megan, Denise and Darcy and their families; a nephew, Bob, and his wife, Diane, of Hebron; a sister-in-law, Eileen May of Northampton, England; as well as great-nieces and nephews and cousins in Massachusetts and many friends on both sides of the Atlantic.
