WINTHROP ? Phyllis A Fogg, 86, of Upper Narrows Lane, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Glenridge Drive, Augusta, after a long illness. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe was born in West Gardiner, May 19, 1915, the daughter of Walter and Ada (Hutchings) Merrill. \r\r\n\r\r\nPhyllis was educated in Gardiner schools. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe worked as a nanny in South Carolina for many years. Upon her retirement, she went to live with her son and daughter-in-law in California, then in Missouri, returning to Maine in 1997 when her son retired. \r\r\n\r\r\nBefore her eyesight started to deteriorate, she was an avid reader and liked to travel. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe was predeceased by her sister, Lois Beauchaine, in 1970. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe is survived by her son, Robert Smith and his wife, Carmen, of Winthrop; three grandchildren, Catherine Smith of Omaha, Neb., Mark Smith of Culpepper, Va., and Valerie Smith of Syracuse, N.Y.; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Smith of Spelter, W.Va.; her brother, Norwood Merrill and his wife, Marjorie, of Gardiner; three nieces, Laurie Carlson of Gardiner, Patrice Clark of Winthrop and Beth Glidden of Vassalboro, and their families; and Barbara Begin of Niantic, Conn., a special person who was like a daughter, and her family. \r\r\n\r\r\nRelatives and friends are invited to visit from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 8 at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a celebration of Phyllis' life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
