MANCHESTER -- Phyllis Madeline Mazzota Wicks, 83, of Manchester and Augusta, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing at Glenridge in Augusta, with her family by her side. Phyllis was born July 13, 1929, in Hempstead, N.Y., on Long Island, the daughter of Vito and Viola Mazzota. She attended Hofstra College and Art Career School in New York City. Art was always in her soul and has been creatively expressed through her entire family. She displayed her artwork in many different locations over the years, including several local art galleries. Her favorite subjects for her watercolor paintings were Southport and Ocean Point seascapes and flower abstracts. Her other interests included traveling, gardening and cooking. Phyllis loved playing the piano and organ and in her youth sang in the St. Raphael choir on Long Island. Phyllis managed the Harlow Gallery of Hallowell from 1982 to 1984 and served as a board member from 1993 to 1995. Her close friends, Muriel Moser, Heide Munroe and Penny Schneider, will miss her sweetness and sense of humor. She was the loving mother of four and a proud grandmother of eight beautiful grandchildren. Phyllis was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Christopher Wicks, in 2005; her painting mentor, Lina Burley, In 2005; and her lifelong friend, Mary Gasbarrone, in 2011. She will be missed by two sons, Mark Wicks and his wife, Janet Harriman Wicks, of Readfield, and Wayne Wicks and his wife, Julie Guerette Wicks, of Winthrop; two daughters, Trina Wicks Patnaude and her husband, Steve Patnaude, of Boscawen, N.H., and Tara Wicks and her husband, Steve DeAngelis, of Readfield; a brother, Vincent Mazzota, and his wife, Faith, of Stuart, Fla.; a sister, Alene Mazzota Bushey and her husband, Roy Bushey, of East Meadow, N.Y.; her children's father, Harold Wicks, of Chelsea; and seven grandchildren, Matthew Wicks, Rebecca, Katherine and Natalie Wicks, and Hannah, Tyler and Luca DeAngelis. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a celebration of her life will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012.
