WINTHROP ~ Polly Cobb passed peacefully at her home in Winthrop on January 27th, 2016, surrounded by her large, loving family to join her husband, Kenneth Cobb, in the warmth and love of the Lord’s arms. Polly was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on September 20th, 1928, the daughter of Edward L. and Muriel B. Page. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1946, attended Western College in Oxford, Ohio from 1946 to 1947, and graduated from Wheelock College in Brookline, MA in 1950 with a teaching degree. Polly taught for two years at Weston Elementary School in Weston, MA. On June 21st, 1952, Polly married Kenneth A. Cobb, an Augusta attorney, at the East Winthrop Baptist Church in Maine. She taught kindergarten at Williams School in Augusta, ME from 1952 to 1953. As a member of the East Winthrop Baptist Church, Polly served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and President of Loyal Daughters Ladies Church Club. At the time of her death, she was an active member of the North Monmouth Community Church in North Monmouth, ME and served on the Board of Directors and as Clerk for the church. She served for five years as a Girl Scout leader in Manchester, ME, a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over fifty years, a Maranacook School Board Member for fifteen years, and an area representative for the AFS Foreign Exchange Program for several years at the Maranacook Community School. Polly also served for many years on the Board of Directors for Manchester Housing for the Elderly. Together with her husband they started the Gardencrest Development in Manchester. Polly was predeceased by her husband, Ken, on March 22, 2005. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Muriel A. Page and Patricia N. Page, her son-in-laws Edward Savage and Darrell Brann, and her niece Rebecca Gibbs. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lu Hatstat of Vermont, her daughters Cynthia Brann, Sandra Lagasse and husband Wayne of Winthrop, Beth Cobb and Debra Cronk of Winthrop and Julie Fletcher and husband Joseph of Monmouth, and her son Eric Cobb and partner Cheryl Thompson of Winthrop; fifteen grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooke and husband Alan of Winthrop, Christa Savage of Winthrop, Ethan Savage and Suzanna Brennan of Chesterville, Kevin Savage of Winthrop, Drs. Christopher Johnston and wife Keny Sandhu of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, Carrie Young and husband David of Manchester, Jason Cobb and wife Sarah of China, Melissa Rooney and husband Matthew of Readfield, Judson and Shelby Cobb of Winthrop, and Kyle, Haley, Audrey, Hayden and Bryce Fletcher of Monmouth; as well as eleven great-grandchildren, Kelsey Brooke of Wilton, Kaleb Brooke of Winthrop, Leah Savage of Leeds, Kenneth, Carden, and Collette Cobb and two step-great-grandchildren Kay and Clara Grady all of China, Kylee Savage of Winthrop, Eliot Young of Manchester, and Delilah and Mariah Rooney of Readfield. She is also survived by cousins Nancy Wilbur and Barbara Miller, nieces Susan Mackin, Nancy LaPierre, Sally May, Carolyn Cobb-Chaney, and Beverly Labbe, and nephew Bill Cobb. Polly was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, devoted wife, and friend to many. She enjoyed Friday potluck suppers with the family, camping with the family, being at Butterpoint in Waldoboro, keeping a home, playing piano with her violinist husband, having lunch with friends, keeping up with the Boston Red Sox from the age of ten, ladies Bible study on Fridays, spending time in Florida, and helping at church. Family, church, and friends were very important to her. A special thanks is offered to caregiver Carrie Fortuna, Dr. Donald Smith, Dr. Elias Lemoine, Dr. Heinrich Grube, Dr. Lesley West, the nurses from Androscoggin Hospice, and Pastor Ed Spencer. There will be visiting hours at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St, Winthrop, ME from 2-4 PM on Saturday, January 30th. The funeral service will be Sunday, January 31st at 1 PM at the North Monmouth Community Church to be performed by Pastor Ed Spencer with a reception to follow. A burial service will occur at Dutch Neck Cemetery, beside her husband Ken, this spring.
