Obituary

Ray Ladd, 75, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was born January 3rd, 1951, the son of Albert and Ruth (Doughty) Ladd. After high school, Ray married the love of his life Elaine "Jeanie", and together they created a beautiful home for their children. Ray was a proud Sergeant in the United States Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine was not just a saying to him—it was a way of life. That same sense of discipline and leadership carried into his civilian career, most notably at Bath Iron Works, where he served with pride and dedication, including time as a Union President. Ray was also an entrepreneur at heart, owning and operating three gun dealerships and later working as a car dealer for O'Connors. Ray was a man of many talents and passions. A black belt in karate, he valued skill, focus, and perseverance. He found joy in working with his hands—cutting wood, tending his gardens, and building a life rooted in care and self-reliance. He loved the outdoors, especially boating and campfires in the backyard, where laughter, stories, and family memories were made. Harpswell, his hometown, always held a special place in his heart, and he returned there whenever he could. Ray was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Wayne, He is survived by his wife Jeanie; his daughters, Heather Ladd and Abigail Ladd; grandchildren Jared and Asher. He was a loyal brother to Alan and Gary, and a dear friend to many. His bond with his best friend, Jonathon Fields, was lifelong—they grew up together in Harpswell and later joined the Marine Corps side by side, a friendship forged in youth and strengthened by service. A Celebration of Life will be held this spring at a later date.
