Obituary

WINTHROP- Rejeanne R. Berube, 95, passed away on January 28 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough with her children by her side. Rejeanne was one of seven children and was born in Montmagney, QC, Canada, on May 24, 1928, to the late Delphis and Marie (Lecomte) Picard. After finishing her secondary education, Rejeanne went on to attend business school in Quebec City after which she worked for an insurance company there. She returned to her village of St. Francois and worked as an executive secretary for a furniture maker. There she met Maurice Berube in 1946 while he was in Canada with his family visiting relatives. After Maurice's deployment to Japan and the Korean War, they were married on October 20, 1951, in St. Francois. They moved to Nashua, New Hampshire, Haverhill, Massachusetts and Newbury, Massachusetts before settling in Winthrop, Maine. In later years as her children grew older, she became the parish bookkeeper at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church and was there for many years. She also volunteered her time and talents for the annual Bishop's Appeal. She was active member of the parish and member of the Women's Club. In her free time, which was limited as the mother of five, she sewed clothes from patterns and knitted and crocheted throws that are still treasured today. She loved playing Bingo managing twelve cards at a time while also able to point out what numbers one missed when playing beside her. She traveled extensively with Maurice including a trip to the Vatican and private audience with Pope John Paul II, a highlight being having shaken hands with a man who would later be canonized a saint. Rejeanne loved tending her garden. She was an exceptional cook who made wonderful meals and set a beautiful table at holidays. She was as also a very accomplished watercolor artist. By far what brought her the greatest joy was being with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and granddogs. In addition to her parents, Rejeanne was predeceased by her husband, her siblings, and their spouses. Rejeanne is survived by her daughter Louise Rochette (Denis), son Roger Berube (Patty), son Michael Berube, daughter Diane Harwood (Greg), daughter Lisa Carey, her grandchildren Renee Marshall, Mathieu Rochette, Anneli Berube, Elizabeth Berube, Michael Berube, Benjamin Harwood, Emily Harwood, greatgrandchildren Addison Rochette, Grace Marshall, Gemma Rochette, Rayna Marshall, Justin Marshall, Ayden Marshall, Sophie Rochette, Kaylee Marshall, granddog Milo, and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Avita of Stroudwater and the Gosnell House of Scarborough for the exceptional care and love they provided to Rejeanne.
