SOMERS, Conn. -- Reta D. Hammond, 95, of Harvest Hill Drive and formerly of Augusta, Maine, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at her home. She was born in Augusta on July 26, 1916, a twin daughter to Miles and Sadie (Niles) Mitton. She attended Augusta public schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1935. Reta worked as clothing supervisor at Augusta Mental Health Institute for 21 years, before retiring in 1981. She was a member of Augusta First Church of the Nazarene and was church secretary for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Irvin Hammond; a twin sister, Leta; sisters Beatrice, Jessie and Madora; and her brothers, Miles Jr., Sam, Woodrow, Vance and Wallace. She is survived by a son, Dana Hammond, and his wife, Darlene, of Somerville; three daughters, Barbara Davis, and her husband, Jonk of Sidney; Donna Stebbins and her husband, Douglas, of Somers, Conn.; Debra Bennett and her husband, Barry, of Somers, Conn.; a sister, Helen Larrabee, of Augusta; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special 'thank you' to grandson Conrad Stebbins for giving 'Nana' such good care. Visiting will be held on Tuesday, July 10, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Augusta First Church of the Nazarene, 30 Nazarene Drive, Augusta, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta.
