WINTHROP-Richard ?Pope? Omer Audette, 83, of the Holmes Road, Winthrop, died at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Monday, Oct. 1, 2001. He was born in Winthrop, June 10, 1918, the son of Paul J. Mabel (Dostie) Audette. Pope attended Winthrop Schools. He married Audrey Alice Prescott, Sept. 30, 1939, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Winthrop. He worked at Winthrop Woolen Mills for several years before entering the Navy in 1944. When he returned from the Navy, he went to work for Leighton Lumber, in Winthrop, for several years until it closed. He was employed at Inmont Corp. until it closed, at which time he went to work for Globe Albany, in Monmouth for nine years, retiring in 1983. Pope was an avid hunter and fisherman. is survived by his wife of 62 years, of Winthrop; two daughters, Diana Dudley, and her husband, Donald, of Matagamon, and Julie Malmstrom and Scott Tindal, of Edgecomb; two brothers, Roger Audette and Paul Audette, both of Winthrop; four grandchildren, Daphne Cromwell, of Westport Island, Bridget Spofford, and her husband, Richard, of Barters Island, Alan Dudley, and his wife, Tabitha, of Easton, and Lisa Torres, and her husband, Roman, of Hillsville, Va; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 4, with the Rev. Brian Blanchette officiating. Burial will be in Glenside Cemetery, Winthrop. The family suggests that those who wish may make contributions in Pope?s memory to Winthrop Sports Boosters, c/o Mike Burns, 144 Route 41, Winthrop, 04364.
