AUGUSTA---Richard K. Nieuwpoort, 68, of Waterville passed away on Monday September 13, 2021 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta. He was born in Manhattan, NY on December 29, 1952. He was raised and attended school in Brooklyn, NY. For all his years, he had so much fun. Now he’s up there with Mick, Munson and Lou, The Babe, Billy and Roger too. Richard was an independent truck driver. He owned and operated Astro GMC COE for ten years. He married Mary L. Nieuwpoort, the love of his life, on December 6, 1985. They were married for 25 years and together for 30 years, the best of his life. He proudly served in the US Navy in 1972. He loved music, movies, TV series and baseball. He was a “die hard” New York Yankees fan, Whitey Ford. Amidst the enemy, Stuck to his guns – Go Yankees, Go Yankees, Go Yankees ! He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his ex-wife, Mary, his two sons, Richard and Travis, his three sisters and seventeen nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother. “You’re nobody till somebody loves you”. He did it his way.
