AUGUSTA ? Richard Ahlan Quigg, 63, of Church Hill Road, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, after a long illness. He was born in Augusta, Feb. 10, 1939, the only child of Clement and Marion (Moore) Quigg. He attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1957. As soon as he was old enough to hold a tool, he began helping his father, Clement, at Quigg's Garage on Bangor Street. Richard had the reputation of being a gifted craftsman. He remained in this business until he was forced to retire due to his serious health problems. In May 1967, Richard married the love of his life, Linda Lou Turner. One of Richard's strongest interests for years had been his support of the Augusta and Vassalboro fire departments. He attained the rank of captain and had more than 44 years of service. In 1971 he was installed as master of the Augusta Masonic Lodge and had been a member of the Maine National Guard. Richard was an avid fisherman and loved animals. Richard will always be remembered as a kind and gentle-natured person. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Lou, in January 1996. He was also predeceased by his parents, Clement and Marion. He is survived by his son, Christopher Quigg, and his wife, Tanya, of Augusta; grandchildren, Melissa and Catherine; and his cousin, Walter Banton of Palermo. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A graveside service will be held at Greely's Corner Cemetery at a day and time to be announced.
