Obituary

WINTHROP-Richard Robert Gallo Sr., 72, of Winthrop, died Thursday evening, Oct. 11, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born in New York City, Jan. 31, 1929, the son of Carmine & Theresa (Tarrantino) Gallo. He attended Leonia High School in New Jersey and was a 16-year Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Fort Lee, N.J., and the American Legion Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. Post 40 in Winthrop. He was also a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Winthrop. Mr. Gallo loved country western music, playing his guitar and banging out his old Navy surplus typewriter. He moved to Maine in April 1998 and will be missed deeply by his family. He always saw the best in everything and everyone. He will be remembered for his positive, happy outlook on life. He is survived by one son, Richard R. Gallo Jr., and his wife, Sue, of Winthrop; one stepson, Harold J. Koster, and his wife, Kathy, of Fairlawn, N.J.; two daughters, Therese Gallo, of California, and Lisa Loring, and her husband, Ken, of Florida; two sisters, Evelyn Keller and Tina Luther, both of Merritt Island, Fla.; six grandchildren, Nancy (Koster) Krudys, and her husband, Joe, Danny Koster, and Rich, John, Laura and Stephen Gallo. At his request, there will be no public visiting hours or services. Arrangements are under the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
