Obituary

HALLOWELL - Rita Digilio Scott Oellers, 95, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.  She was born on June 9, 1931 in New London, New Hampshire, to parents Gaetano and Assunta (Covelli) Digilio. She grew up in Sunapee, New Hampshire on The Digilio Family Farm, which sold fruits and vegetables. She graduated from Sunapee High School and attended the University of New Hampshire as part of the class of 1953

Rita had a life-long love for learning and was always a “joiner.” She once said there wasn’t one club in high school that she didn’t join. This spirit followed her all the way to the last years of her life, where she proudly served on many committees at Granite Hill Estates retirement community.

Her favorite job was being a mom to her five children. Her home in Winthrop on Maranacook lake overflowed with the smells of freshly baked goods. Every visit to Rita’s house included a tour of the flower and vegetable garden and a taste of a fresh cherry tomato.

Rita was never idle, always finding ways to enjoy life. In 1984, Rita married Richard “Dick” Oellers and gained 4 bonus children. They met through mutual friends and in their early years enjoyed going out dancing together and motor homing with friends. Following her retirement, Rita and Dick traveled extensively throughout the country in their motorhome, spending many winters at their second home in Venice, Florida. When she couldn’t travel anymore, she loved to hear the stories of adventures from her children and grandchildren.

For the past eleven years Rita made her home at Granite Hill Estates. Never one to let a new adventure go to waste, she participated in everything they had to offer. She worked out daily, shared the fruits of her garden with the kitchen, and took classes at the senior college. At 93, she took her first writing class and proudly shared her new skill.

She loved the residents and staff at Granite Hill, and could always be counted on for a smile and kind conversation, and they loved her back in turn. Some friends there were new, others she enjoyed 60+ years of friendship with over her adult life in the Winthrop area. She could not be more grateful for the tender, love, and care she received at Granite Hills from the staff and residents alike.

She is survived by her children Brad Scott, Greg (Chantal) Scott, Cindy (J.) Brown, Bill (Victoria) Scott, and John (Khristine) Scott, her grandchildren Brian Scott, Amanda Vickery, Jacqueline (Jordan) Kennedy, Weston (Erin) Scott, Leika (Ian) Pinette, Gibson Scott, Jeremy Brown, Julia (Abben) Brown, Kimberly (Liam) Brown, Vincent, Vita, and Rocco Scott, Nicole (Ryan) Conant , Jessica, and Nathan Scott, and great-grandchildren, Colette and Evelynn Vickery, Brayden, Dylan, and Skye Scott , Rowan Conant, and Sawyer Pinette.

Her bonus children Wendy (Ron) Fulmer, Suzanne (Russell) Naughton, Rick (Teri) Oellers Jr., Elizabeth (George) Oellers, her bonus grandchildren Katie (Rocco) Criscone, Heather (Zachary) West, Christopher (Kim) Roche, Tori (Garner) Blume, Eric Oellers, James DeTullio, Alexander and Julia Latham. Bonus great-grandchildren Maya and Zoe Criscone, and Emilia and Watson Blume

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Oellers, as well as her

parents, Gaetano and Assunta Digilio her siblings Joe Digilio, Mary Weinstein Hingston and John Digilio, daughter in law Margaret Scott.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
