AUGUSTA - Robert A. Hanson, 80, of Augusta died Monday, March 2, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Washington, the son of Alonzo and Selma Hanson. He grew up in the Washington area and attended school there. Robert worked for more than 40 years at the Edwards mill in Augusta until it closed. He then worked for the city of Augusta as a supervisor until his retirement. Mr. Hanson loved his old truck. He enjoyed hanging out with the boys at the Summerhaven pits. He also loved country music and playing his guitar. He was a dedicated father and husband. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Norma A. Hanson, in 2002. He is survived by his sons, Dennis Hanson, of Manchester, Richard Hanson, of Pittston, William Hanson, of Augusta, Ben Hanson, of South China, Royce Hanson, of Belgrade and Ronald Hanson, of Augusta; his daughters, Cindy Kenney, of Belgrade, Helen St. Peter, of Albion, and Ann Babb, of South China; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Hallowell.
