Obituary

AUGUSTA - Robert G. Peaslee, 86, formerly of Manchester, died Thursday June 3, 2010, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta. He was born in Somerville, Aug. 1, 1923, the son of Guy F. and Leola (Benner) Peaslee. He grew up in Somerville and Washington and entered the Army in 1943. After leaving the service, Robert returned to Maine and was a woodsman the rest of his working life. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a fixture at Bakers Smelt Camps during the winter months. He liked the ocean and spent some time in Florida. He was a member of Post 205, American Legion, in Augusta. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved his dog, 'Milo.' Mr. Peaslee was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (Reay) Peaslee in 1993; a son, Roger Peaslee; a daughter, Nancy Hicks; brothers Forest, Freeman, Harold and Aubry Peaslee; sister Frances Connelly and dear friend Hazel Glidden. He is survived by his sons, David Peaslee and his wife, Laurel, of Farmingdale and Darrell Peaslee, of Jefferson; daughters, Jeannie Weymouth and her husband, Mike, of Manchester, Peggy St. Pierre and her fianc?, Lou Parent, of Gardiner, Sandy Gosselin and her fianc?, Craig Davis, of Monmouth, and Debbie Bickford and her husband, Phil, of Manchester; his brothers, Lawrence, Fred, Doug and Guy Peaslee; sisters Marion Asdott, Evelyn Colby and Myra Cook; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, 'Milo.' A funeral service will be held at the Kennebec Valley Assembly of God, Old Hallowell Road, Chelsea, on Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. There will be a gathering after the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , Maine Chapter, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham 04086.
