CHELSEA - Robert E. Towers, 72, of Chelsea, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, after a long illness. Robert was born in Belfast and grew up in the mid-coast region. He joined the Air Force as a young man and served for 22 years before his retirement. He went on to become a truck driver for another 22 years. He and his wife, Thelma (Woodbury) Towers, moved back to Maine 10 years ago. Robert is survived by his wife, Thelma; his children, Robert Towers Jr. of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., James Towers, of Crestview, Fla., and Kimberly Schwartz, of Navarre, Fla.; his stepchildren, Douglas Shores of Falmouth and Trudy Graffan of Falmouth; his sisters, Margaret Kenney of Gardiner and Flora Towers of Camden, along with numerous grandchildren.
