AUGUSTA - Rodney Lewis Hill, 77, was called to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 28, 2011, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville. He was born in Bridgton on Oct. 14, 1933, the son of Linwood and Alfreda (O'Brien) Hill. Rod served his country as a staff sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from June 25, 1951, until his honorable discharge from active duty on June 24, 1955. He was employed by Statler Tissue for over 40 years until his retirement as mill manager. Rod was a man who spent his life dedicated to his family and his faith. He had been a member of the Augusta Area Jaycees, Augusta Lions Club, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Church of Christ, both of Augusta. Rod was predeceased by his parents; sisters Barbara Ayer and Doris Merrifield; and brothers Larry and Linwood Hill. Rod is survived by his wife, Irene Hill, of Augusta; his five children, Joyce Wright and her children, Aaron and Amanda, Debra Hill, Brenda Westerlund and her husband, Prescott, Bradford Hill and his wife, Valerie, and their children, Meeghan and Jordan, Nancy Prince and her husband, Randall, and their children, Nathan, and Alison and her husband, Joshua; a brother, Earl Hill and his wife, Margaret; a sister, Ruby Gouette and her husband, Howard; an expected great-grandson; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. A celebration of Rod's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 209 Eastern Ave., Augusta. Committal services with full military honors will be held later in the spring at Kling Cemetery in Augusta.
