Obituary

HALLOWELL - Roger H. Lord, Sr., 95, of Hallowell, died Friday March 30, 2006 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, in Augusta. He was born in Hallowell on the Lord family farmstead January 22, 1912 the son of Arthur S. and Bessie (Emery) Lord. He graduated from Hallowell High School in 1930. He married Arlene Burgess December 23, 1933 and they were married 62 years. Roger was a dairy farmer all his life, delivering milk to many families in the Hallowell and Farmingdale area. He was a member of the Kennebec Lodge of Masons #5 AF&AM in Hallowell, the Maine Obsolete Auto League, the East Winthrop Rock and Mineral Club and was a county committee member of the Farmers Home Administration in Kennebec County for many years. After he retired in 1977, Roger and Arlene traveled extensively throughout the United States. They camped and collected rocks and minerals on their trips including five trips to Alaska. He loved collecting, cutting and polishing gems and made lots of jewelry, clocks and other items. He was a true ?Rock hound.? He also did caning and macram?. He and Arlene chaperoned several class trips with students from Hallowell High School to Washington D.C. Roger will be greatly missed by his children and their families and all his many friends. Mr. Lord was predeceased by his wife, Arlene in 1996; three brothers and a sister. He is survived by his sons, Roger ?Buckie? Lord, Jr. of Hallowell, Ronald Lord and his wife, Carolyn, of Arcadia, FL., Freeman Lord and his wife, Anne, of Hallowell and Duane, ?Bud? Lord and his wife, Barbara, of Hallowell; his daughter, Norma Jean Brown and her husband, Darryl, Sr. of West Gardiner; fifteen grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great Grandchildren. Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, Monday 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 2:00pm. Spring burial will be in the Hallowell Cemetery. Roger?s family wishes to thank all the staff at Glenridge Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion.
