Augusta - Roidmond R. ?Rod? Young Sr., 87, of Quimby St. died Friday July 28, 2006 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Palermo on February 16, 1919 the son of Ralph and Harriet (Jordan) Young. Rod graduated from Cony High School, class of 1938, where he played football and hockey. After high school, he worked at Bath Iron Works before serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Rod was a welder at Hudson Pulp and Paper and Stattler Tissue for over 30 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2, Augusta. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He was predeceased by his wife Pauline Young in 1986. He is survived by 2 sons Timothy Young of Augusta and Roidmond ?Rod? Young Jr. and his wife Donna, also of Augusta; a daughter Sylvia Becker and her husband John of Maryland; a sister Sylvia Marson of Augusta; 8 grandchildren, Roidmond Young III, Lance Young, Laurie Chicoine, Tim Young, Aaron Young, Kelley Young, Kevin Peele and Jennifer Peele; 2 great grandchildren Skyler and Joey Young; and a nephew Gene Thayer and his wife Becky of Gardiner. Visiting will be held Monday, July 31, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will take place Tuesday at 10:00. Burial will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
