AUGUSTA - Rose M. Bachelder passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center. Rose was born Feb. 24, 1930 in Gardiner. She was the daughter of Ernest LeRoy and Grace Leona (Day) Ricker, and attended school in Chelsea. She spent her career caring for others, serving as a health aide at Augusta Mental Health Institute for 30 years. She enjoyed visiting with family members, spending time on the Maine coast and eating seafood. She was an avid reader, collected dolls and was fond of pets and wildlife. She was predeceased by her parents; her first-born son, Lewis Raymond Bachelder; her husband, Lewis Raymond Bachelder; her brother, Ernest Ricker; and her twin sister, Grace Zdunczyk, with whom she shared a special bond. She is survived by her son, Raymond E. Bachelder, and his wife, Hilda, of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; her daughter, Sylvia Baird, of Augusta; former son-in-law David Baird of Augusta; her sister, Nona Allen, of Middletown, Conn.; her brother-in-law, Stan Zdunczyk, of Middletown, Conn.; grandchildren Tavis Baird, Heather Bonaiuto, Tara Baird Hicks, and Heidi Figueroa; great-grandchildren Robert, Ryan, and Timothy; niece Cindy Yuris; and nephews Mark Allen, David Zdunczyk and Dan Zdunczyk. She will be missed and fondly remembered by her family. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center for their warmth and caring for Rose at the end of her life and for the hospitality shown to her many visitors. A small memorial service will be held at Knowlton Hewins Roberts Funeral Home. 1 Church St., Augusta, Monday at 11 a.m. Rose will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery.
