WAYNE- Rosemary Rees Place, of Wayne, Maine died of natural causes at St. Mary’s D’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston Maine, April 16, 2013. Born August 22, 1926 in Butte, MT, Rosemary was a graduate of Fresno High School (CA) and attended Fresno State College before marrying Lt. George J. Place Jr. of the Army Air Corps at Luke Field in Phoenix, AZ on March 2, 1945. The Place family relocated to Swampscott, MA then Wayne, ME in 1958, where they raised their family on their homestead on Androscoggin Lake. Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband George J. Place, Jr., her sister Dorothy Morrish and brother-in-law, Robert B. Morrish, Sr. and her parents, Caroline and Lloyd C. Rees. Rosemary is survived by daughter Carolanne Ireland and husband John; sons Donald Place and wife Susan and James Place and wife Cindy; nephews Robert Morrish Jr. and wife Marilyn and William Morrish and wife Suzanne Dvells; niece Janie Marcoux; grandchildren Christopher Ireland and wife Vickie; Jeffrey Ireland and wife Tracy; Emily Weir and husband Chad; Sarah Langdon and husband Scott; Nicholas Place, and Jordan Place and wife Rebecca. She is survived by eight great- grandchildren. Rosemary’s passions included caring for her family with a wonderful sense of humor. You could always find her in the kitchen preparing gourmet meals. She loved ornithology, spending many hours bird watching, counting loons and eagles and learning their songs. Music was an important part of her life, playing piano duets with her husband George. She was instrumental in promoting the love of music throughout her family. Genealogy, crossword puzzles and in-depth readings were team-sports with George. She brought her expertise in dance to Wayne and taught the scout troops and youth. She was past president of the Cary Memorial Library in Wayne. She also was an active supporter of many activities at Androscoggin Yacht Club of Wayne. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory, may be made to: Cary Memorial Library PO Box 127, Wayne, ME 04284 Rosemary’s family would like to extend a sincere heartfelt thank you for the compassionate and competent care given to her by Dr. Kurt Oswald and all of the staff of 4-West, D’Youville Pavilion of St. Mary’s Healthcare of Lewiston, ME. A gathering to celebrate Rosemary’s life will be held in the near future in Wayne. All friends and family are welcome to join us and share thoughts and stories. The date will be forthcoming. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop.
