WINTHROP ? Ruth Rogers, wife of Earl Rogers of 31B Royal Street, died quietly with her husband and son by her side Tuesday morning, Aug. 27, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, after a long and courageous battle. Her family had been keeping a constant vigil at her bedside for the last few weeks. She was born in Winthrop, Aug. 9, 1920, the daughter of Charles Edwin and Lillian Marguerite (Brown) House. She graduated from Winthrop High School, class of 1939, and was well known for her outstanding performances in various school plays. She was a member of Winthrop United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. On June 8, 1940, she married Earl Ruben Rogers at Hallowell Methodist Church. Ruth and Earl were blessed with two sons, David F. and Dana E. Rogers. She was predeceased by two brothers, Irving E. and George E. House. Ruth is survived by her husband, Earl; her two sons, David F. Rogers and his wife, Jill, of East Winthrop, and Dana E. Rogers, and his wife, Ginger, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; her sister, Johanne E. Macomber of Winthrop; her brother, Robert Malcolm House of Benton; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice, wife of Irving E. House, Marilyn, wife of George E. House, Pearl Smith, and Nellie and James Hooker, all of Winthrop; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Ruth was a very loved and important member of a loving family whose life will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at Winthrop United Methodist Church, Main Steet, Winthrop, with the Rev. Heidi Chamberland officiating. Burial will follow at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop.
