Sabra (Sam) Jean Gray Demers Obituary (1951

AUGUSTA - Sabra (Sam) Jean Gray Demers, 62, of Augusta, beloved sister of Connie Gray Hanson and Sandy Gray O'Brien, passed away after a brief illness at MaineGeneral Medical Center on March 2, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and a special friend. Sabra was born in Augusta on January 28, 1951, the youngest daughter of Lawrence N. and Violet M. Gray. She spent her life in Augusta and was in the class of 1969, Cony High School. Sabra faced many challenges in her lifetime, but through it all she remained a loyal friend to all who knew her. With a heart as big as the sky and always thinking of others, she would want to help where ever she could at the drop of a hat. She loved her family, and was an avid lover of animals. Her much loved dog, Sheeba, had been a constant companion for 14 years, passing in 2009. She's been an avid supporter of wolves and all animals. She especially loved her and Wally's newest addition to the family, a little dog name Shake. Sabra enjoyed making crafts, growing beautiful things and working on home improvement projects with Wally. She will be very much missed who by all who knew and loved her. Sabra was predeceased by her father, Lawrence N. Gray and mother, Violet M. Gray. Sabra is survived by her two sisters, Connie Gray Hanson, Augusta, and Sandy Gray O'Brien and her husband Jack, of Hayden, Idaho. Her sisters will especially miss her being part of 'The Gray Girls'. She also leaves behind her son, Michael Demers and his wife Megan of Bath, daughter Deborah Demers and her partner, Steve Howard of Falmouth, grandchildren Kayla, Jake and Josh Demers of Bath and Alyssa Remillard and Joseph Valez of Falmouth, her soul mate (who her sisters called Sabra's angel) Walter Sylvester, and several nieces and nephews. She held a special place in her heart for her nephew, Bill Tibbetts, Jr. Visiting will be held on Saturday, March 9 from1:00 to 2:00pm at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, where a memorial service will follow at 2:00. Burial will occur in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Augusta. The family would like the thank the staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center for the great care given Sabra over the years, and especially thanks to the staff in CCU during her last visit. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Sabra's memory may be sent to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta.
