MOUNT VERNON - Seldon E. Bunker Jr., 74, of Mount Vernon peacefully went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at his home. He was born in Augusta on Oct. 25, 1934, the son of Seldon E. Sr. and Dorothy (Cash) Bunker. At the age of 18, Seldon joined the Navy, spending more than three years traveling the world on his ship, the USS Roanoke. He married Rachel Smith Baker March 22, 1965. When he returned to Maine, Seldon worked for Hudson Pulp and Paper and later, Statler Tissue in Augusta. Mr. Bunker enjoyed hunting; fishing; family and friends; cribbage with his grandchildren, Josh and Taylor; camping; baseball; bowling and golf. He was a true-blue Red Sox fan. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports, and loved his church. Seldon was a member of Dunn's Corner Baptist Church, the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge, the Maine Big Buck Club and the North American Hunting Club. Mr. Bunker was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Constance Lucas. He is survived by his wife, Rachel; his children, Samuel Baker and his wife, Leigh, of Rocky Mount, N.C., Cara Gregor and her husband, Terry, of China, David Ronald Baker and his wife, Janice, of Actworth, Ga., James Gary Baker and his wife, Lori, of Belgrade, Patricia Cummings and her husband, Richard, of Pittston, and Margaret Meservey, of Randolph; his brothers, Kenwood Bunker and his wife, Nancy, of Mount Vernon, and Bruce Bunker and his wife, Bernie, of Carlsbad, Calif.; a sister, Joan Gavett and her husband, James, of Mount Vernon; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at Dunn's Corner Baptist Church. Burial will be at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Seldon wished that donations be made to the Dunn's Corner Baptist Church Building Fund c/o Tony Gould, 1936 North Road, Mount Vernon, ME 04352.
