Obituary

HALLOWELL- It is with profound sadness that we share with you the passing of our mother, Sherry Stevens on October 30, 2024. Through sheer grit, determination and a bit of stubbornness she persevered through countless of life's hardships to reach the impressive age of 80, finally succumbing to the ailments that plagued her for so many years. You could not find a stronger more resilient woman. Sherry was born on April 6, 1944 to Claire and Alfred Dube of Lewiston. She was educated in the Winthrop School system where she met and married Donald Tainter Sr, had 3 children and started working at the Carlton Woolen Mill, a career that would span over 30 years. A number of years after her third child she would remarry to Errol Stevens and have a fourth, somewhat vexatious, child. After a lifetime of raising kids and working diligently to provide for them, Sherry would retire to her own home in East Livermore, that she was ever so proud of. There she would spend her time in her flower garden and playing with her grand and great grandchildren until ultimately moving to the Woodlands Assisted Living Center for the last few years of her life. Sherry was predeceased by her her parents, her two sisters Sue Wadleigh and Pam Langtain and her son Scott Tainter. She is survived by 3 children, Donald Tainter Jr of Scarborough Me, Dianne Pepper of China Me and Eric Stevens of Manchester. 2 sisters Angie Kelly of San Diego and Jackie Jones of Phoenix and a brother Charles Irby of Augusta. Me. and 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A special thank you to her dear friends Robin, Molly and Ella Mae for their support. A deep amount of gratitude is also owed to The Woodlands Assisted Living Facility of Hallowell and to Andwell Hopsice for their wonderful care and cooperation. Due to our mother's very private nature, she requested no service or "fanfare" of any kind and we will honor her wishes. Thank you again to all involved in her care. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church Street, Augusta, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home website, www.khrfuneralhomes.com
