WINDSOR - Shirley E. Varney, 91, of Ridge Road, died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at her home. She was born in Windsor on April 12, 1920, the daughter of Leslie and Eva (Lowe) Gove. Shirley was a graduate of Cony High School. Together with her husband, they owned and operated a dairy farm as well as Varney's General Store in Windsor, where she worked for more than 73 years. Shirley was a people person. She enjoyed meeting and talking with the folks who would stop by the store to shop or visit. She was a 50-year member of the Grange and had a love of animals, especially her dogs. There will be no public visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in Resthaven Cemetery, Windsor. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy Varney; two sons, Fred and Eugene Varney; and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
