Obituary

Stephen Robert Crockett 11/23/1934 – 4/14/2025 Stephen Robert Crockett died on April 14th, 2025, while at his winter home in Bonita Springs, Florida. Mr. Crockett was born in Livermore Falls, ME., on November 23, 1934. He was the son of Robert E. Crockett and Katherine (Williams) Crockett. He attended Cony High School and Gates Business College. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Navy in 1956 and started his career in Banking in May, of 1957. He retired as a Senior Vice President from Bank of America in March of 1997. Mr. Crockett served on several Boards and Commissions during his career: Maine State Parks and Recreation Commission; Commission to Study and Evaluate the Maine State Legislature; Governor's Management Task Force; Maine State Compensation Commission; Maine Turnpike Authority; Augusta Housing Authority; Augusta Board of Trade; Treasurer, Kennebec County, and the Maine Municipal Bond Bank, serving as the Chairman for over 30 years. Mr. Crockett was a Dedimus Justice for the State of Maine. He served as Interim Finance Director for the City of Augusta, and was a member of the American Legion Post #40, Winthrop, ME. Steve loved to fish and garden; he was especially proud of his tomato, cucumber and flower gardens. He enjoyed many wonderful times at the family camps on Moosehead Lake and in the Allagash with family and friends. Steve was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Sandra, on February 18th, 2025; his mother, Catherine Williams; father, Robert Crockett; stepfather, Herman E. Williams; one brother, Edward Ned Crockett; three sisters, Clara Hinkley, Ona Thornton, and Phyllis Richmond, and half-sister Gail McKenney and her husband, Tom, of North Monmouth. Survivors include one son, Ned. S. Crockett and his wife, Melanie, of Winthrop; two daughters, Lynn Kimmel of Winthrop, and Belinda Golden and her husband, Michael, of Augusta. Three half-sisters, Carol Brann and her husband, Wayne, of Coopers Mills; Paula Cook and her husband, Steven, of South China; Lois Gosselin and her husband, Reginald Jr, of Bradon, Florida, and one half-brother, Herman Williams Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Pittston. Seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2025 at the Winthrop United Methodist Church, 58 Main Street, Winthrop, ME. Visiting will begin at 1pm with the funeral to follow at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winthrop United Methodist Church, PO Box 136, Winthrop, ME. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, Maine.
