AUGUSTA - Stephen R. Lamb, 62, formerly of Winthrop, died Sept. 26 in Augusta after a long illness. He was born in Biddeford on March 11, 1947, the son of Ralph and Catherine (Bizantakos) Lamb and attended Saco schools, graduating from Thornton Academy in 1965. Stephen attended the University of Maine at Portland, and later earned a master's degree from State University of New York at Albany. Stephen was employed as a computer programmer at Royal Globe Insurance in New York City before moving back to his home state, where he worked as a programmer at Hannaford Bros. and the state of Maine. Stephen later returned to school and earned another master's degree, in social work, and was employed by the Maine Department of Human Services until his retirement in 2002. Through the years, he also worked as a news reporter for the Portland Press Herald, the Advertiser Democrat, and the Kennebec Journal. He married the former Gail Sisto on July 12, 1973. The couple had one son, Galen. Both reside in Winthrop. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas and John, of Saco. Relatives and friends may visit at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., in Winthrop, 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
