AUGUSTA - Sullivan James Thyot, 57, of Augusta and Florida, died on Patriots Day, April 19, 2010, in Florida. He was born in Troy, N.Y., April 24, 1952, the son of Armond and Marie (LeMay) Thyot. He grew up in Troy and in Connecticut and entered the Army shortly after high school. He served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971 with the 101st Airborne Division, receiving the Bronze Star Medal with 'V' device for valor. He was honorably discharged in 1975. After returning from Vietnam, he moved to Maine and worked in the construction business for many years until his retirement in 2007. Sully was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars both in Florida and in Maine and was also a member of Post 2 American Legion in Augusta. He enjoyed classic cars, country music, talking politics and was very patriotic. Mr. Thyot is survived by his son, James Thyot, of Fort Bragg, N.C.; his daughters, Robyn Thyot, of Augusta, Tyse Biasuz and her husband, Marcio, of Augusta, and Brooke Salom and her companion, Shawn Hebert, of Solon; his brother, Ernest Thyot and his companion, Brenda Fillow; his companion, Claudette Albert; Robyn and James' mother, Freda Plourde, and Brooke and Tyse's mother, Betty Blackman along with seven grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will follow at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Following the burial, a reception for family and friends will take place at American Legion Post 2. Memorial donations may be made to help defray funeral costs.
