Obituary

AUGUSTA- With sadness, The Piper family wishes to make known the passing Susan Jean Piper, age 69, of Augusta. Susan passed away April 8, 2024 at The Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation after a brief illness with her loving nephew and her "Special Cuz" close by. Susan was born March 26, 1955, the youngest child of Lawrence E. and Katherine B. (Nichols) Piper, whom predeceased her. She was predeceased by her older brother Lawrence E. Piper Jr. "Lonnie" and her "Little Big Brother" James A. Piper. Susan was also predeceased by her spouse Marjorie Cram, along with many of their beloved pets. Susan is survived by her nephew/Godsons James L. Piper and Matthew P. Piper, nephew Neil, nieces Keira, Kimberly, Vanessa and their children, along with "Special Cousin" Diane Vorpagel, lifetime friends Janice "JP" Cowan and Debbie Willard, other cousins and family members, along with the last of her feline companions, Gracie, Stormie, Sophia and Summer, whom shall all find loving fur-ever homes, as Susan would have wished for them. Susan was a graduate and proud member of Cony High School's Class of 1973, and one of her fondest recent memories was the opportunity to attend her 50th anniversary class reunion. GO RAMS!!! She was also knowledgeable of her hometown of Augusta, as well as her family's direct connections to the city which she was born and raised in. She was employed by Peachy Builders and T.W. Dick Steel. She was a proud member of N.A.W.I.C., the National Association of Women In Construction. She had many tales to tell of her time with these companies, and the friendships she made through them. Her personality, good nature, infectious smile, laughter and quick wit will be fondly remembered, and sorely missed by all who knew her. "Puggy" loved her Coke (no silly, the soda). If it had that logo on it, she was interested. She enjoyed music, puzzles, gardening, coloring, sharing her stories, and time spent with her family and friends on trips to the coast of Maine (and beyond). She was also a fan of all her New England sports teams. Most of all, "Suzi" LOVED each and every one of the many pets throughout her lifetime with her entire heart. It is doubtful one can recall a time in this life where a furbie was not part of her world. It is without question, after her last breath in this realm when she took her ancestor's hand to go, her first breath in the next was at the bottom of a giant snuggle pile at The Rainbow Bridge, where all her "children" awaited her, so they may all cross together, united once again, fur-ever. You are gone, but "It's never good-bye." Those who knew you will never forget you. You merely walk beside us in another form, one with "The Force." We love you 3000 A graveside memorial will be held at Kling Cemetery, West River Road, Augusta July 12, 2024 at 9A.M. In lieu of flowers, the Piper family requests that donations be made in Susan's name to The Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 168 Leighton Rd, Augusta, ME 04330. Interested parties may also visit and sponsor an animal of their choosing or pay an animal's adoption fee in Susan's honor. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, where memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of our website at www.khrfuneralhomes.com
