WEST GARDINER - Verda B. Knowlton, 92, of West Gardiner, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, with her loving family at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born on the family farm in South China Jan. 10, 1915, the 11th of 13 children of Charles and Bertha (Jones) Buzzell. She grew up in South China and graduated from Erskine Academy. Shortly after graduation, she began working as a proofreader at the Kennebec Journal, where she continued for her entire career. She retired from the KJ at the age of 71. Verda loved to play games like 83 and Cribbage. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was known for her sense of humor. She also made her mark by baking the best apple pie ever. Verda was predeceased by her brothers, James Vernon Buzzell, John Buzzell, Harley Buzzell, Wallace Buzzell and Ross Buzzell; her sisters, Mabel Laverty, Ula Maude Snell, Arlene Slater, Tina Osier, Celia Bonner, Irma Morrison, and Hazel Harvey and her great-grandson, Justin. She is survived by her daughter, Kay L. Stuart, of West Gardiner; her son, George L. Knowlton and his wife, Gina, of Peoria, Ariz.; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Georgina, Terri Lynn, Richard, Scott, Tracey, and Shelley; her great-grandchildren, Jessica, Mathew, Nehemiah, Zachariah, Natasha, Gabrielle, Ashley, Nikki, James, Katarena, Adam, Zachery, and Lily; her great-great granddaughter, Katarina, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at the Chadwick Hill Cemetery in South China on Wednesday, June 27 at 3 p.m. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta
